Better to buy OR rent?

I get that question often in my line of work, and even more so this time of year as people make plans for the new year. Most people want a quick answer, which is tough. The quick answer is simply “it depends.” I know, not helpful.

Whether it is better to buy or rent comes down to a lot of factors. They can include, but are not limited to:

  • how long would you plan on keeping the home?
  • how much are you currently paying for rent?
  • how much are you looking to put down on the purchase?
  • what is the purchase price of the home you are looking to buy?
  • can you qualify to buy a home?

Having this detailed of a conversation may take more than a minute, but it is well worth it to get information about you, your needs, and your goals. To get the ball rolling on something like this, contact me and we can take a look at your specific situation.

If a five to ten minute phone call is too much time, you can always look to use a “buy vs. rent calculator” similar to the one the New York Times recently published.

With home prices and interest rates near all time lows (adjusted for inflation), this is a great time to look to buy a home. As you make plans for 2013, think about adding buying a new home to that list. If you are looking to buy a home in the state of Georgia, I can prequalify you and walk you through each step in the mortgage process to closing!
